Hey evr1 ! I’m here today to talk about one of my fav bands of metal, The Agonist. Hope you find this article interesting.

The Agonist (originally The Tempest) was formed in 2004 by Dani Marino (guitar), Chris Kells (bass) Alissa White-Gluz (vocals). After the 1st album (Only Once Imagined), Simon McKay was officialized like a member, the drummer. The video “Business Suits And Combat Boots was elected the number 6 of 2007, according with Ball of MTV2 Headbanger’s.
They released their second album in march 2009, Lullabies For The Dormant Mind, and get a good popularity with the video “Thank You, Pain”.
Alissa have a really incredible vocal capacity, with an impressive range of tones (with a good example in the 9th track of the second album) and your alternance between clean and screams/gultural. Dani Marino use unorthodox intersection chords, often with wide intervals and octave displacement. The bass is very present in some intros, and the drums are explosive.
The lyrics revolve around moral concerns, such as animal rights, the dilemmas of society and the circunstances of the World, but with a poetic language. In a interview to Hornsup, online magazine, Alissa said that for the second album she found inspiration on the “fantastic dark world” of Tim Burton, and the macabre of Allan Poe*. She said too that they’re trying to create a joint of music and theater in their compositions, a peculiarity that can be seen easily in the video of the third track from the second album, Thank You, Pain. This and the initiative of add classic instrumental (by a friend of Alissa) were, for me, the highs of Lullabies For The Dormant Mind.
These characteristcs makes The Agonist one of the most complete bands of nowadays metal in the scene, my opinion. In sequence, there will be some of the videos of the band.
